The most readed post so far has been my jorney on learning arabic. So I was thinking and maybe it's a good idea to post some things so we can learn arabic together. The basics, of course, but enough to go to an arabic country and say Hello, Good Morning or even ask for something.

Today is the first lesson and we will learn how to say:

 

 

So I've been in middle east for more than one year now. And my arabic skills could be resumed through the basics (Marhaba, Habibi, Shokran) and that's was a lot. Mostly this words we hear on the streets, with arabic friends and even at work. But arabic at first didn't seemed really needed because everywhere you go you can speak English. Since most of the workers at malls, taxis or restaurants come from countries like Philipines, Paquistan or India, English is the most talked language. Also we can't forget that only 15% of the population in UAE is locals. So English was pretty much what I talked here.
But things changed after I got married. My husband is arabic so it became a need to learn arabic to talk with his family and also for our future kids (inshallah).
So one of this days I was talking with my best friend here and we decided to go to arabic classes.
First we went to this center called IQRA, that I learned means read, we had our first class to see our level ( maybe a little bit less than 0 ) and we signed up for classes.
First month it was funny because everything was new and some words we start to know but after we end up giving up on this center mainly the program doesn't have good structure so it was a big mess and everyweek someone new comes and we started all over again. it become very boring.
So we had to find other solution. One of my arabic friends has a lot of free time so she started give us classes. It's very funny because we are between friends ans we have fun while learning. Although in this classes we see progress slower. We started by learning the alphabet and reading. so its been maybe almost 3 months and we are now starting to read the magazines and newspapers. It's sooo funny.

Então, eu estou no Oriente Médio há mais de um ano. E minhas habilidades para falar árabe podiam ser resumidas em: Marhaba, Habibi, Shokran e era suficiente. EsTas palavras são as que ouvimos nas ruas, com os amigos árabes e até mesmo no trabalho. Mas falar arabe no início não parecia verdadeiramente necessário, porque em todo lugar que uma pessoa vá, é o Inglês que se fala. Como a maioria dos trabalhadores em shoppings, táxis ou restaurantes vêm de países como Filipinas, Paquistão ou a Índia, o Inglês é o idioma mais falado. Também não podemos esquecer que apenas 15% da população nos Emirados Árabes Unidos é local.
Mas as coisas mudaram depois de me ter casado. O meu marido é o árabe por isso tornou-se uma necessidade de aprender o árabe para falar com sua família e também para os nossos filhos.

Assim, um destes dias estava a conversar com a minha melhor amiga e decidimos começar a ter aulas de árabe.
Primeiro fomos a um centro chamado IQRA, que aprendi que significa ler,  tivemos a nossa primeira classe para ver nosso nível (talvez um pouco menos do que 0) e inscrevemos-nos para as aulas.

O primeiro mês foi engraçado porque tudo era novo, começamos a saber, algumas palavras mas acabamos por desistir deste centro, pois o programa não tem uma boa estrutura, então foi uma grande confusão e todas as semanas alguém novo chegava e começamos tudo de novo outra vez.
Então tivemos que encontrar outra solução. Uma das minhas amigas árabes tem bastante tempo livre, então começou a dar-nos aulas. É super engraçado porque estamos entre amigas e podemos nos divertir enquanto aprendemos. Embora nestas aulas vemos um progresso mais lento. Começamos por aprender o alfabeto e leitura.

New Muslim Center (neste centro todas as sextas-feiras existem imensas atividades, há uns tempos atrás era só para novos muçulmanos, mas agora também estão a receber não muçulmanos e é de graça, neste centro pode aprender árabe e também um pouco sobre o Islão)
